Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is the official month for National Breast Cancer Awareness. This is an annual health campaigned organized by breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research. The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was founded in 1985. In 1993, the pink ribbon was established as the symbol to represent breast cancer. In 1991, Susan G. Komen Foundation passed out pink ribbons in New York City during their nationally known race.

Dallas, Texas is actually the home of the first Race for Cure. This race happened in 1983 and there were 800 participants. By 2002 the number of participants grew to an estimated 1.3 million and the race was held if over 100 U.S. cities.

The 3-Day will be held in Plano, Texas this year and will take place November 6-8th.

Stock Show Goes Pink-Celebration of Breast Cancer Survivors in Fort Worth

This will not be happening until January, but the Stock Show & Rodeo will be supporting breast cancer awareness by asking attendees to wear pink and by donation 50% of the proceeds for tickets!

Last year the rodeo raised over $20,000!

Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority- Think Pink

Zeta Tau Alpha’s philanthropy is “Think Pink” which has become the overall theme for their breast cancer awareness and education projects. Contact your local colleges with the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority to get involved with their philanthropy events this year! The Zeta Tau Alpha collegiate and alumnae chapters hold over 500 events to raise funds and increase awareness of breast cancer.

Kendra Scott

For the month of October, every purchase of the Danielle or Elle Rose Quartz earrings…Kendra Scott will gift one pair of earrings to a woman diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. In addition, with every online purchase of these two styles, they will donate 20% back to Komen Austin.

Estee Lauder Companies

Fifteen different brands join together to promote a line of “Pink Ribbon Products” during the month of October. Proceeds will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness. They have raised more than $58 million.

Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony

Ralph Lauren fragrances introduced the Pink Pony, which is a deluxe version of their Romance. The bottle has a pink ribbon and for every bottle sold 100% of the profits will be donated to Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony Fund. The fund is a global initiative that supports programs for screening, early diagnosis, treatment, research and patient navigation for breast cancer.

Aerie Bright Pink Limited Edition Bralette

American Eagle’s intimates store will donate 100% of the money earned by this product to Bright Pink. Bright Pink claims to be the only national non-profit organization that focuses on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian caner in young women. Pink Bralette

NFL Crucial Catch

The NFL is a strong supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Turn on your TV on Sunday and Monday nights and you will see teams incorporating pink into their uniforms in order to help raise awareness. North Texas Fundraisers:

NOLA Grill Dine Out for the Cure

October 1st-31st

NOLA Grill in Frisco will be hosting Dine Out for the Cure between 4 pm-6 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. They will donate $5 for each $35 three-course meal purchased to Susan G. Komen North Texas.

Shahla’s Kitchen

October 1st-November 30th

They will be donating $5 from every one of her cookbooks sold through Amazon or her website through the month of October. She will also donate 15% of every cooking class booked in the month of November.

Ashley’ Beauty Solan Fundraiser

October 1st-November 30th Ashley’s Beauty Solan (located at Parker/Coit and in Willow Bend Mall) will be donating 30% of each tattoo service (Monday-Thursday).

Wichita Falls Firefighters Pink T-Shirts

October 1st-31st The Fire Department in Wichita Falls will be selling pink t-shirts to raise awareness and funds in the local fight against breast cancer. Proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen North Texas.

McAlister’s Cookie Fundraiser

October 1st-31st 50 cents from every pink sprinkles cookie sold during the month of October will be donated to Komen North Texas.

Mission Pink at Allen Premium Outlets

October 1st-31st Allen Premium Outlets is hosting their annual fundraiser for Komen North Texas. When you donate $10 to Komen North Texas at Simon Guest Services, you will receive a coupon book full of 35% off single item coupons at participating Allen Outlet stores.

Cookies and Cakes for Komen-Celebrity Café & Bakery

October 1st-31st

Celebrity Café & Bakery will be donating 100% from the pink ribbon cookie sales and 50% from the pink ribbon cake sales!

Dallas Mavericks Breast Cancer Awareness Night

October 16th 7:30 PM

The game against the Atlanta Hawks will be benefitting Susan G. Komen North Texas from their ticket sales and the post-game shooting shirt auction.

Dance for a Cure

October 31st

Queen B Productions will be hosting a Dance for a Cure event benefitting Susan G. Komen North Texas.
